Ate too many calories today, but I counted every one and still am confessing them to you. The key is to keep tracking these, no matter what I do. So, here they are.
Tomorrow may be a better day. Let's hope so.
I gained 100 pounds after having a surgery that altered my metabolism (now treated with meds), which was also the same time my late husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. He passed away 1 1/2 years ago. Sure miss him. I know it's time for me to focus on my own health. I have lost 20 pounds so far, but I've been stuck. So I'm trying a number of things including this public "embarrassment" blog where I plan to journal for the world to see what I'm eating. Hope this will help me stick to it.

Golfed and other misc stuff
Hi there. Went to my Weight Watchers meeting today. I gained 1.6 since 2 weeks ago, but that's pretty good considering I wasn't really consistently counting calories. It's still within reason. The 3 pounds that came on yesterday dropped today, so that's real good.
I only ate 1700 calories today plus I golfed 9 holes - 4 miles of walking over 3 hours. Yeah for me. So, that should help.
Get active folks. The summer is gone in a heart beat. Get outside and enjoy the warmth!

One step at a time
Well, day 2 of counting calories - all my calories, and posting on this blog after a bit of a too long break. Yeah, and this morning I got on the scale and saw a lovely 3 pound jump. How nice. I know I ate a lot of salt yesterday, plus I had some baileys Irish Cream (liquor slows the metabolism), and ate too many calories. So, although I took a good walk, I still had a huge gain. GRRRR.
Today I ate way too many calories again. But you know, this is still progress - the fact I tracked 100%. Got to start there and then I'll trim down the calories. That's how I did it before and lost. I will do this.
Tenacity. Very important in life and especially losing weight. That I have. Now it's time to keep using it.

I'm back
Yes, I'm back to my Public Embarrassment Blog. Where was I? OK, I started dating this awesome guy and my life kind of got super crazy and busy. But it's settling down now, and I know I need to do this to help me lose weight, so I'm back blogging.
I ate too much today, but after dinner I did take a good brisk walk so hopefully that will help. It was Father's Day and we had kind of a lot to eat at my dad's house. But at least I tracked 100%, walked, and am back to this blog. Time to get losing more!
Hopefully I'll keep this up and get some more weight off. here's what I ate today:

Got out to Oak Brook Mall on my lunch hour and took a brisk 33 minute walk. So nice to get outside to move. Come on, let's move!!!

When to stop your work out
Another thing Jack has said is "don't work out until you are sore cause you're gonna swell up. Just work out until you feel good." I really think he is right. So yesterday I worked in the yard for 3 hours. I did do too much, but there was still more to do when I stopped, but I was getting sore and remembering Jacks words - stop before you get sore. Sure enough, I gained a pound too. Swelled up. Plus I made cajun chicken for dinner and the rub I used was super salty. Double wammy. But I really pushed the water today so hopefully that will help, although I had left over cajun chicken for dinner. But eventually it'll drop back off.
Took a nice brisk walk after dinner tonight. yeah! The sunlight is lasting longer and it's warmer and drier, so much easier to get out more. Move move move. So important for so many reasons.
That's it for today. Here's what I ate the last 2 days.

McDonad's for lunch and Greek for Dinner
Ate McDonald's for lunch and Greek for dinner. For lunch I had a small fry, southwest salad no chicken and a Quarter pounder where I pull off a piece of bread and cheese and eat it open face. It's still really good.
Ate too much at the Greek restaurant tonight but wow, it was good. At least I didn't snack at all today so that helps.
Activity - did some cleaning and a little bopping around the house to music - not really enough though. Gonna get back to daily walking.
That's it. :)

Bowling and a good seafood place
Ate at Jimmy's Island Grill for dinner tonight. Totally recommend it. Great seafood. I splurged and had the 16 ounce king crab legs. They were perfect. Here's the web site: http://www.jimmysislandgrille.com
Also last night I went bowling. You know, it was actually really good exercise. I was surprised - I actually was sweating. But there were two of us so it meant throwing a lot of balls. Any activity is good. Let's move!

Fasting for religious reasons
During Lent this year I decided to fast once a week for one meal - breakfast on Wednesdays. But I do drink liquids - and I do drink a Mocha Light Frappacino. Even though I'm such a fasting lightweight, I do see stuff happen when I fast that just doesn't happen otherwise. I have a few subjects I am praying about in particular too. But those are private - between me and God. So, that explains my weekly Starbucks breakfast on Wednesdays right now.
I'm also on and off sad lately. Both my parents are very ill and probably won't be here that much longer. Hard to be in this stage in life, and for both to be declining at the same time. But I still need to count my calories and watch what I eat no matter what is going on in my life. So, I did and I am.
Be loving. Life is short.

Tried another recipe but it was just ok
So I tried another low cal recipe tonight but it was just OK. Coconut Curry Chicken Stir Fry. Had to add soy sauce before it tasted good. So I won't bother putting the recipe in here. But I am trying new things, hoping to find a good one for you.
I'm doing so good weight wise. A solid 25 pounds are off, and sometimes I dip further. But I have a long way to go still. I like losing it slowly like this. Just trying to keep the calories down day by day, and letting the weight come off slowly. This is the way to do it.

Sometimes food just looks better than it tastes
I can't believe I haven't posted since Friday. Sorry about that. I just was out for dinner late on Saturday, and tired last night. But I did count my calories like a good girl.
Yesterday I tried out a new recipe, French Country Style Slow Cooker Chicken Thighs, but it wasn't that great (although it looks good). I'm picky on food though - if it isn't fabulous, I don't make it again. But it really looks good doesn't it? Sometimes food, I suppose like people and some dogs and cats, look better than they actually are. LOL

Felt Fake Hunger today after a difficult event
I really need a Weight Watcher meeting. I had to miss last Saturday due to my mom going into the hospital. I'm going tomorrow and I need it. It just motivates me so much.
Mom got released from the hospital today. I am so glad. But cautious. She was release in early March and 3 weeks later was back in and worse. I'm not sure she is going to live. Time will tell.
Today I actually bought a beautiful dress for her to be buried in. After I bought it I have to admit I felt hungry. I think that was just a "please soothe my emotions with food" craving. I am so proud of myself in that I just ate a salad with no meat - 140 calories. I made a good choice.
It's strange how emotions can fool you like that - make you think you are hungry when you are not.
No food will make it better. You just have to lean in and do the emotions. They won't kill you and they won't last forever.
Resting now.

Is there such a thing as balance?
Balance. Is there such a thing? I'm not sure. I work full time, my mom is extremely sick in the hospital, my dad is pretty darn sick, too, and I need to take care of me, too. How is that done? I think for me it's a pacing. It's not doing everything to the nth degree. So, I worked hard at work, but I took time to go take a walk over lunch at the mall (see my smiling face below). I left a little early so I could see Mom after work and not spend forever in traffic. I just stayed about 45 minutes - tended to her, checked in with the hospital staff, and then got myself dinner and some down time. That seems to work for me. Balance - or at least an attempt at it.
The scale had a huge drop this morning. I'm the lowest now since my husband died. Hope it keeps trending down. Yippee.
We must take care of ourselves to take care of others. Just true.

Self-Care - Always needs to be a priority in weight loss
I don't put everything I eat in my food diary. I don't put vegetables, no-calorie beverages. So if you think I'm not getting enough of those, I am - I just don't bother cause the calories are nil. Also, sometimes I put an item that isn't exactly what I ate, but close in description and/or calories. Just being transparent here!
My mom is still in the hospital. She's recuperating, but we believe it is temporary. She has pneumonia and can't seem to heal. Her lungs are bad and so she just can't breathe enough these days. So, it is serious. I love her so much, though. It is my honor to help her through her end of life. But I must not lose myself in this. So I am still counting my calories, and tonight I got a much needed hair cut. Over eating happens when we self-neglect in other areas. Gotta take care of my basic needs. It's not a bad thing - it's a good thing.
Take care of yourself.

Oven Roasted Chicken
Made a new recipe tonight from one of my Weight Watcher's cookbooks - Oven Roasted Chicken with Srirachi-Honey sauce. It was good, but not great. I only repeat great recipes, so I won't make it again. But you have to try stuff to find the gems.
My mom is still in the hospital. She is better, but it is a temporary fix. She isn't doing her treatment at home and just will end up failing again. So, we are considering hospice care. It's a very emotional time. But I am still counting my calories. You can't throw away your health in stress times. I did that when my husband was sick with cancer and gained all that weight. I need to not do that. Period.
You know how on a plane they tell you to put on your own mask before you assist others. We have to be sure we are healthy before we can help others.
That's your lesson for the day.
:)

Gotta track even when life is crazy stressful
My mom's still in the hospital, and it's extremely serious. We are considering hospice care. Lots of tears. Plus, my dad is also very ill with cancer.
But I still tracked my calories. I overate, but not crazy. I'm happy with that.
I made chili with ground chicken tonight. I just love a bowl of chili on a cold night.
To lose weight and do it for life, you have to still work at it even when life is extremely taxing. And so I am.
